Thoughts from Our First Conversation
We've read through Chapters 1 and 2, exploring images of God. None of us saw God in quite the same way.
Two questions emerged: How can we know something is true? and What is archetypal energy? Plato posited both truth and archetype as eternal forms. All this will emerge in greater depth when we read about St. Augustine in Chapter 4. Later this week, I will post material about Jung's archetypes of the unconscious. Meanwhile, ponder what Augustine calls "the original pattern on which we were formed."
Armstrong also compares the love of Jesus with the Hindu bhakti, "the perennial human longing for humanized religion." Bhakti is but one of four ways of knowing, or yogas, in Hindu tradition. A good summary of the four ways may be found here.
