Hildegard of Bingen and Carl Jung
Hildegard's most famous heir may be the Swiss psychiatrist and mythographer Carl Jung. Between 1915 and 1930 he created an illuminated manuscript of his deepest and strangest visions, the Liber Novus or Red Book. If the world illuminated by Hildegard showed a world at unity, Jung saw it divided and he strove to deal with our species' propensity for evil and our need to create the divine. The movie below shows the slides I discussed at tonight's class.
